Bonus Marks Question: Why is it that making people take action is the
hardest step in infographic design?
- Some infographics could be overwhelming due to the many amount of information provided causing cognitive load.
- Most infographics are made to be understood simply and attractively, so they're good in educating but they could be lacking in clear instructions in what to do next.
Week 2 (09/02/2026)

EXERCISES: PROCESS WORK
1. Flip-Class: Infographic Redesign
Chosen Infographic
This infographic of the top grossing foreign films does not look
well-designed in my opinion because people need to tilt their heads because
the body text are written vertically. The body text is a also bit too small
without contrast for different information. However, I like the idea of
using the patterns of a popcorn box as a place to list the information, with
its thickness varying from the largest to smallest.

2. Exercise 1: Quantify & Visualize Data (10%)
I chose to use my stationeries as the items for exercise 1 because they are the first thing that pops in my head when I think of something I have a lot of. I first gather all the stationeries I own that I thought could work.

| Figure 2.2.2 Sorted by Color |
Next, I categorized them based on their types/function: pencils, ballpoint pens, gel pens, brush pens, and markers.
|
| Figure 2.2.3 Sorted by Type |
After that, I arranged each items in each category by color: rainbow and also by thickness: thin (left) to thick (right).
|
| Figure 2.2.4 Arranged |
To make them look more pleasant to the eyes, I make each item lined and spaced equally to the best that I can. I twisted the caps to all face the same direction, and turn the body labels to face the same angle.
After I sorted, arranged, and presented my data, I explored on ways to present
them to try to find a way to display them in a more creative way. I ended up
creating a star shape. I thought of a few ways I could display stationery,
however I'm limited on the amount of stationery I had accessible right now.

FEEDBACK
Week 1 (04/02/2026)
For exercise 1
- Use the stuff we already have in large quantity, don't need to buy.
- No editing software, just the items, paper, and pen (or other writing instrument).
- Show the process of sorting.
- Take a good photo.
- Present data to be easily recognizable - arrange & visualize
- Do in Illustrator.
Week 2 (09/02/2026)
For exercise 2
- Don't make the subjects/characters from scratch, utilize existing images since time is only 1 week.
- Content is not limited to only Pokemon.
- For kinetic typography, make sure After Effects is installed, song is chosen, and its lyrics are pasted to spreadsheet divided amongst team members (1 person 4 lines).
